The preservation, presentation and journaling of your memories in an album that can be passed from generation to generation. By selecting products that are acid and lignin free, the photograph ageing and deteriorating process can be minimised ensuring precious photographs stay in good quality for a long periods of time. Remember the yellowed photograph album? Scrapbooking helps avoid this problem.

Memory Art have followed scrapbooking through it’s growth as a creative craft in the USA and its progress as a craft here in the UK.  Scrapbooking has evolved over the years from simple photograph albums and journals as well as card scrapbooks to a creative craft that embodies artistic and craft principles.  In short – there’s no right or wrong way and the only limitation is your imagination.

Scrapbooking, as a creative craft means different things to different people and you may start scrapbooking for many reasons, including:

  • A scrapbook of your wedding
  • A scrapbook of life’s journey
  • A scrapbook tracing your ancestry
  • A scrapbook of a child’s birth
  • A scrapbook of your treasured family pet
  • A heritage scrapbook

Scrapbooks come in many sizes, although in recent years they have standardised in 3 basic sizes have evolved. All should be of acid and lignin free construction and a post bound scrapbook construction is a must for those that want to extend their albums.  Standard scrapbook sizes are 6x6, 8x8 and 12x12.  A post bound scrapbook allows it to be expanded with further scrapbook pages. Manufacturers such as K&Co. have a non standard album size of 8.5x8.5 although their extra pages are readily available.

Q. What is 'Acid Free' ?

Acid free products are needed to help preserve your photographs as long as possible in a scrapbook album. Glue, paper, stickers, embellishments should all be acid free to avoid discolouration. The acidity of products causes paper and photographs to deteriorate, so this term refers to a neutral level of acidity, i.e. pH 7.

Q. What is 'Lignin Free' ?

Lignin is the natural bonding element that holds wood fibers together. Newspaper contains lignin and you will notice how brittle and yellowed a newspaper becomes after just a few days. Lignin can be removed during the processing of scrapbook paper to make it safe for use. Remember to check that your paper products are both acid and lignin free.

Q. What is a 'Crop' ?

To “crop” a photo means to cut it to shape and size. In the USA this term is used to describe a group of people meeting up to "crop" their photographs. Our crops are available on the workshops page.
